Press Statement 25th November 2003

Pakistan-India Peoples' Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) condemns the hooligans of Patit Pavan Sanghatan (PPS) who disrupted a friendly water polo match at Pune between Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) team against Pune University. The team of Pakistani students are in India at the invitation of PIPFPD.

The LUMS team was in Pune for three days. Earlier they had played against the A and B teams of Deccan Gymkhana Club and the water polo team of Pune University. This was to have been the last of the quadrangular round Robin water polo meet. Instead of encouraging and promoting such people-to-people activities the failure of the state government from stopping the anti-social elements the PPS is most alarming. We urge the government of Maharashtra to take immediate and appropriate legal actions against Patit Pavan Sanghatana, which has terrorised the members of Deccan Gymkhana and the guests players.
