Press Release 28th Feb. 2002. Condemn Communal KillingsThe Pakistan India Peoples' Forum for Peace and Democracy condemn the barbaric incident occured at Godhra- killing 57 people, injuring many others. Triggered by religious hatred, incidents like this hamper the secular fabric of India beyond repair. In this hour of grief, we join the families of those killed and injured in the incident at Godhra and the unfortunate follow-up of it in other parts of Gujarat. While condemning the incidents in no uncertain terms, we request the Government of India to take neccessarry steps to prevent any repetition of these, which could trigger-off communal riots in different parts of the country. The incident at Godhra and the ones followed at Ahmedabad, Baroda, etc. are not individual events of communal flare-up. They are a result of nurturing of the communal propaganda and religious intolerance across the country by fundamentalist organisations. Renewed efforts by extremist organisations like VHP and RSS to build the Ram Mandir at the disputed site at Ayodhya has led to the new round of communal tension in the country. We urge the Government of India to immediately stop any attempt by these organisations to perform any untoward act at Ayodhya, which can cause much more harm to the country than any act of 'terrorism'. Communalism and religious fundamentalism- both by the majority community and the minority communities- have to be condemned. Most of the people killed in these kinds of violence are innocent civilians, including women and children. Thus on behalf of PIPFPD, we condemn the barbaric attack on human lives. On this occassion we also demand the GOI to:
